Welcome to TEKnology Lab 1!
TEKnology Lab Level 1 offers an introductory look at many different areas of technology. Students will learn programming fundamentals, many different creative applications, web design tools as well as many general technology concepts.
1. Computer fundamentals
- Students will gain a foundational understanding of computing technology. Specifically, students will explore the MYTEK LAB website, hardware/software technologies, operating systems technologies, and internet security concepts. Students will take a final quiz at the end of this lesson.
2. 2D Game Art 1
- Students will explore pixel art technology and learn many different concepts to create game art inspired pixel tiles. These tiles will be integrated into a tilemap editor. At the end of this lesson, students will have a tileset that can be integrated into an RPG-style video game.
3. Programming 1
- Students will gain a foundational understanding of many programming concepts by using a block coding environment. Students will learn about logic, algorithms, and understanding to think like a programmer. Specifically students will work with strings, variables, conditionals and operators, loops, math functions, and functions. Students will complete a coding project to complete this lesson.
4. 3D modeling for games 1
- Students will explore a program used specifically for creating 3D game art. Specifically, students will learn to interact with cubes and voxels, texturing, and exporting these models to various applications and portfolio-style websites. Students will complete this lesson by creating a 3D model.
5. VR Development 1
- Students will learn to create virtual reality worlds using a block programming based application. Specifically, students will learn how to incorporate 3D models (even models they have created in the previous 3D modeling for game art lesson), work with animation, assets, textures, lighting, and physics concepts. Students will complete this lesson by creating a unique virtual reality world.
6. Web Design 1
- Students will receive a fundamental understanding of web technologies using block coding to produce web pages. Specifically, students will work with text, lists, images, links, styling, and tables. Students will finish this lesson by completing a personal web page project.
7. Web Development 1
- Students will use a block coding system to create JavaScript code that will interact with web pages they created in the previous lesson. Specifically, students will create onclick events and functions to update a web page dynamically. Students will complete a project at the end of this lesson.
8. 3D Modeling for 3D Printing 1
- Students will receive a foundational understanding of 3D printing technologies. Students will also use a block based coding application to learn how to create their own 3D models that can be printed on a 3D printer. At the end of this lesson, students will create a 3D model project.
9. Capstone Project
- Students will complete a capstone portfolio project highlighting every area of learning. Students will build a portfolio website showcasing all the projects they have created throughout this course.
Materials/requirements needed:
- Laptop and or desktop computer running Windows or Mac OS.
- We recommend Google Chrome for the web browser.
- MYTEK LAB Parent Account and Student Account.
- Zoom video conferencing software.
Your instructor is Stephen Souders, otherwise known as Mr. MYTEK. Stephen has worked in the field of information technology since he was 15 years old when he began his career by working for an ISP while still in high school. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems from Florida Gulf Coast University and a master's degree in Computer Information Systems from Kennesaw State University. Over the years, Stephen has worked specifically in the web development field, managed an Information Technology department, and taught classes at Georgia Highlands College for over 6 years. Stephen and his wife, Jacky, opened MYTEK LAB. Together, they have been teaching technology education to students of all ages since February 2015.
Can't make the online class? Forget what was done during the class? We have you covered! Included in all our live online courses are the recorded live lessons. Students have full access to the recorded live lessons whenever they need them. These recorded lessons are located in their MYTEK LAB Student Accounts.
